Leadville

I signed up for the Leadville 100 Mountain bike race. I've always wanted to do it. Why? For the challenge. I hate admitting that I'm getting older, but I am. So tackling something like this proves to myself that while I am older, I'm not done. I still have a few more fibers twitching.
Leadville applications outnumber the available race slots. I won't know if I was accepted until February. In the meantime I am going to spin class three times a week and doing hill repeats once a week. There is plenty of snow here in Utah county and I tried to bike last week but could only hit the roads. I went off road on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, but the snow was too loose to ride on. I just sank.
I found out about a cool ride called RAWROD that KanyonKris wrote about last year. I am planning on doing that this year as part of my training for Leadville.
I also plan to ride into work several times a week. I work in downtown Salt Lake City. From Orem that is about 45 miles. So I think if I get a base of 150 miles a week, that might be good enough. Any comments on that?
Honestly, I ride a lot when the trails aren't snowbound. Usually about an hour each morning. My typical ride is in the trails west of Mount Timpanogos. Look at this one. Yeah I know, it's only 6 miles, but the elevation gain is 1812 feet. So I am climbing most of the time. The last 15 minutes are the descent.
I think for Leadville, I need climbs like this, but also distance in the saddle so I will work on this.
